How do You Celebrate Reading?

10 March 2015

Allison read about National Reading Month as well as next week's 21st Annual Virginia Festival of the Book schedule and paused to celebrate one of her very favorite things... reading!

Our blog is called What We’re Reading Now so I suppose it will come as no surprise that I’m a big fan of National Reading Month and the Virginia Festival of the Book. If you visit the National Education Association site, you can learn more about National Reading Month and find news about different events in your community. “Now in its 18th year, this year-round program focuses on motivating children and teens to read through events, partnerships, and reading resources.” And it all happens with a Dr. Seuss theme! I especially enjoyed the video of U.S. Service Members reading, Oh, the Places You’ll Go.

March is also the month of my community’s annual Virginia Festival of the Book. I look forward to it every year and wait with anticipation for the schedule to be released and have blogged about Festival delights in the past. It’s always hard to narrow down the list of events I’ll attend and often there will be two I want to go to at the same time. (These are good problems to have!) Here’s what I’ll be enjoying this year:

How will you be celebrating National Reading Month? The Center for the Book in the Library of Congress maintains a directory of book fairs by state. If you can’t join us in Charlottesville, VA, next week for our 21st Annual Virginia Festival of the Book, perhaps there is a book fair in your state that you can attend.
