What We're Reading Now
“Celebrate good times, come on!”
5 November 2013
Allison read the invitation for tomorrow’s ribbon cutting and paused to celebrate a wonderful milestone for the Allison Partners team.

Last month I wrote about how important it is to celebrate your success right now if you want to be happier. (Too often we’re busy chasing the next goal rather than enjoying what we’ve already accomplished.)
As I woke up this morning wondering what I should write about today, I realized it was a good time to follow my own advice. So please indulge me while I pause for a moment and dance around my home office to Kool & The Gang’s “Celebration.” (Maybe you’ll press play on this YouTube video and do your own dance.)
Okay. That was fun and now the dancing portion of my morning is complete. You laugh, but I dance around the office pretty frequently. It’s a nice break when my to-do list feels impossible and makes me laugh with myself which is always a good idea. I’m working from home today while contractors make a few repairs and it feels kind of significant to do this dance in Earlysville since for five years this was headquarters for Allison Partners.
I started the business in the second bedroom of my apartment during business school in 2000 and then moved operations to Earlysville when I bought my house in 2003. (We still keep our Albemarle County business license out here since some of our clients enjoy the retreat-like setting.) In 2008, we moved to McIntire Plaza on Allied Street and last month we moved to Cedar Court Professional Center because we needed more space for our growing team of employees and subcontractors.)
Tomorrow, 6 November 2013, we’re having a ribbon cutting at 1230 Cedars Court, Charlottesville, VA 22903, from 5:30-7:30pm. Every time I read the invitation I smile:
“Allison Partners invites you to share in the celebration of their growth at the ribbon cutting of their new office at Cedar Court Professional Center. Enjoy a beverage, meet the team, browse the bookshelf, and learn about our organizational development efforts in our community and around the world. All are welcome.”
Rachel and I hope you’ll stop by tomorrow night and meet our newest team members, Elizabeth Doyle-Propst, Nedra Fleming, and Geof Hammond. They are the kind of team I hoped to hire when I started things 13 years ago and I'm so glad they've decided to join us. “Celebrate good times,” indeed!
